This is a delicious, kid-approved (and adult loved!) smoothie recipe that’s not only healthfully filling but also incredibly versatile.  It works for breakfast, snacks, and even dessert…and is ready in a matter of minutes!

When my family was switching my kid sister over to a whole food diet, we had some issues with switching over from conventional milk.  Making homemade goat/sheep/cow or coconut milk kefir was an easy way to get both less allergenic and more nutrient dense versions of milk products (as well as some fermented foods for gut health!) into her diet without her making a big fuss.

And to be honest, the rest of us adults didn’t really mind it either! Even when you know something is good for you, it becomes much easier to stick with healthy habits when it tastes delicious.

Avocado Kefir Smoothie Base & Delicious Variations

Smoothie Base:

Steps:

  1. Add all ingredients to blender and blend on high for a minute or until entirely incorporated.

Variations to add to blender:

  1. 1/3-1/2 cup blanched pistachios (pour just-boiled water over pistachios in a cup and steep for 5 minutes before adding to blender).
  2. Add 1 banana.
  3. Add ½ cup of spinach.
  4. Add several mint leaves.
  5. Add coconut flakes, chia seeds, or goji berries for fun texture additions.
  6. Add 1-2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder or 1 tablespoons raw cocoa nibs (less sweet than cocoa powder)

All of these were kid-approved by my 11 year old sister (and when she was younger!) but especially variations 2, 3, and 6.
