These lotion bars are great for so many reasons! First of all, they take about 5 minutes of hands-on time to make and only use 2 base ingredients (3 if you want them scented). They are incredibly moisturizing and are so easy to travel with that you’ll rarely find yourself without them (bonus: they don’t need to be stored in the fridge). Since they can be made using a variety of molds and with all kinds of different scents, they make pretty amazing gifts as well!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup cocoa butter
- 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
- Optional: 5-8 drops of any essential oil you would like (I like using peppermint because it works well with the cocoa base smell…when making these for the men in my life, I often use cedarwood)
Steps:
1. Combine the cocoa butter and Vitamin E oil in a small pot over low heat.
2. Stir the cocoa butter and Vitamin E occasionally until everything is melted together. This will take about 5 minutes or so.
3. Once the butter and oil are combined, take the pot off the heat and add in your essential oils, if using. Mix well.
4. Pour the mixture into your molds. I prefer to use silicone candy molds because they come in all kinds of cute shapes but I’ve also used silicone ice cube trays to get regular cubes. If you don’t have silicone molds, I’ve also had great success using a few measuring cups as molds.
5. Once you’re done with the pouring, place your molds in the fridge until they solidify entirely.
6. After the lotion bars have solidified, place them into an air-tight container. I bought small metal tins (about $3) from Hobby Lobby so that I could easily store one lotion bar at a time in my purse (bonus: they fit into my scrub pockets!).
That’s it…super simple!
